Springtime has arrived where I live but the weather snapped. It'll be a couple more weeks still before anything starts to grow again. I found these flowers featured in a Spring Journal, seeing them made me smile and my eyes misted over a little. That might sound silly but in this rotten weather they've made my day and lifted my humdrum spirits. Thank you for that.
The detail in the leaves and petals, the hues and grades, I wouldn't change a thing. Smart to use a black background as well, really brings the whole composition out.
Hello Gea again, first I opened your notes Here I'm using Loew-Cornell 7020 ultra Round #12. It's got characteristic red belt. I bought it at AC Moore, it was on sale that day I love it, it is soft and got nice point
You've done it again! Your florals are always so gorgeous. <3 I'm really amazed by the attention to details on the petals in this piece. Your usual flair for delicious color schemes, composition, contrast, and skillfully beautiful painting techniques in general are all here, and with the boosted focus on the petals, this piece sticks out nicely from your other floral paintings. I especially like the mixed colors on the petals, as well as the blushes of red in the green leaves. Such color mixing keeps all of the colors extra vibrant and luminous, always lively and never flat.
You rock. Always looking forward to your next painting!

Really beautiful! I love the contrast of warm pink and cold bluish violet Not to mention that hint of yellow that really brings the colors to life. The petals are very well drawn but the shading really brings out their shape and texture. I also like the green leaves I would've added a hint of yellow to them, too, myself, but it probably wouldn't have looked very realistic that way XD And that's what you were going for, right?
May I ask you if this was painted from a photo or life? Or just from your head with or without references?
Lately I bought artificial white peony. I was looking at it and I thought “no way. I can’t paint it from life” So I took some photos. But even with photos I was often lost in those petals. The process was so time consuming so when finally I got to those green leaves I was so tired that I gave up painting details. Anyway I like the outcome and I’m glade that you like it too. Thanks for your comment
